The Save a Heart foundation recently held a fund-raising event in Ann Arbor, with a wine and food tasting held at the Michigan Union. The tasting featured 150 wines from around the world and food samples from local Ann Arbor Restaurants. Whitmore Lake’s own Bobber Down Bar and Grill was among the restaurants that participated, and had the distinction of being the only restaurant from outside of Ann Arbor.
The event, which also featured a silent auction and live jazz performed by Community High musicians, was held to raise funds to benefit patients and their families who come to the University of Michigan Congenial Heart Center at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospitals in Ann Arbor. The Congenital Heart Center provides comprehensive care for infants, children and young adults with congenital heart disease.
Funds raised will provide support that ranges from help with travel expenses and lodging for patients and their families, to evaluation of long range effects of medical and surgical treatment on patients and their families. In a time when more medical costs are being shifted to the patient, one of their goals is to relieve the families’ financial burdens during an already stressful period.
Carl from Bobber Down commented that he “wanted to be involved with some kind of fund raising event and because we had family interest in the Pediatric Heart Department we chose the Save a Heart fundraiser.”
Approximately 600 people attended the event. All restaurants were asked to prepare one or more of their signature food items. Bobber Down served prime rib and homemade cheesecake, which were prepared by cooks, Deb and Kurt – both were a big hit. All restaurants decorated their tables with a theme. Kathy and Bill from Whitmore Lake Florist helped decorate Carl’s table with a floral arrangement and a beautiful sign that was custom made for Whitmore Lake (which she sells at her shop!)
Carl commented “We were so glad to be asked to participate in this event and plan on participating for years to come. I think the event was also a great way to let people know the type of business they can find in Whitmore Lake.”
Our businesses have heart! Please support them this holiday season.
